“Utopia, mi cuerpo no es mi cuerpo” es un proyecto fotográfico documental busca cuestionar el lugar de silencio y ocultamiento que han vivido las identidades transexuales a la vez incentivar un dialogo social más respetuoso e inclusivo con las diversidades sexuales.

Por medio de este recorrido visual se muestra la experiencia del cambio corporal a partir del tránsito de una identidad de género a otra en un ejercicio de re significación y descubrimiento del propio sentir.

La transformación del cuerpo se explora desde una perspectiva biográfica y de archivo, que muestra la vida de jóvenes quienes materializan esta transformación. En este ejercicio de encuentro el pasado dialoga con el presente en un relato testimonial donde el cuerpo transexual deja el espacio de silenciamiento para enunciarse y visibilizarse. Este gesto expone más que sólo las cicatrices de una operación quirúrgica o rastros de un cuerpo re-habitado, también busca dar cuenta del ejercicio político que hay en el derecho a una identidad sexual en un contexto donde esta decisión se niega.

Las fotografías presentadas buscan adentrarse en las memorias de infancia, el conflicto del tránsito y la construcción del yo. El trabajo recaba diferentes experiencias en torno ser y vivir como transexual en Chile. Los protagonistas, representantes de distintas formas de habitar el género, muestran como la experiencia de migración de identidad se vive en un contexto donde la construcción hegemónica del género cuestiona e intenta invalidar –por medio de diferentes tipos de violencias- cualquier expresión fuera de la norma. La subversión esta en el gesto mismo de asumirse transexual: usar hormonas, operaciones de reasignación genital o tacones son algunos de los elementos que plásticamente se ajustan a una definición propia de la identidad ampliando aquellas estructuras que definen cerradamente lo femenino y masculino.

Cada uno de los retratados se muestra frente a la cámara en complicidad con la búsqueda de un registro que dé cuenta de la intimidad del cuerpo, su transformación y la resistencia vital que significa habitar el cuerpo que se desea. 

«Utopia, my body is not my body» is a documentary photographic project that seeks to question the place of silence and concealment that transsexual identities have lived while encouraging a more respectful and inclusive social dialogue with sexual diversity.

Through this visual journey, the experience of bodily change is shown from the transition from one gender identity to another in an exercise of re-signification and discovery of one’s own feelings.

The transformation of the body is explored from a biographical and archival perspective, showing the lives of young people who materialize this transformation. In this exercise of encounter, the past dialogues with the present in a testimonial story where the transsexual body leaves the space of silence to be enunciated and made visible. This gesture exposes more than just the scars of a surgical operation or traces of a re-inhabited body, it also seeks to account for the political exercise that lies in the right to a sexual identity in a context where this decision is denied.

The photographs presented seek to delve into childhood memories, the conflict of transit and the construction of the self. The work gathers different experiences about being and living as a transsexual in Chile. The protagonists, representatives of different ways of inhabiting gender, show how the experience of identity migration is lived in a context where the hegemonic construction of gender questions and tries to invalidate -through different types of violence- any expression outside the norm. The subversion is in the very gesture of assuming oneself as transsexual: using hormones, genital reassignment operations or high heels are some of the elements that plastically adjust to an own definition of identity, expanding those structures that narrowly define the feminine and masculine.

Each of those portrayed is shown in front of the camera in complicity with the search for a record that accounts for the intimacy of the body, its transformation and the vital resistance that means to inhabit the body that is desired.
