74 Nudos es un proyecto investigativo que nace a partir de la historia de una niña de 12 años que fue abusada sexualmente por su tío. Tal como ella, existe un sinfín de niñas y mujeres alrededor del mundo que, lamentablemente, han sido violentadas sexualmente. La violación es la forma más extrema de violencia, señal inequívoca de la articulación patriarcal que merma libertades y atenta contra la vida de las mujeres.
Dada la articulación patriarcal y la coartación de libertades, con todos los niveles de violencia que se superponen en esta configuración social, surge mi inquietud acerca de cómo dejar testimonio, mediante el arte de la fotografía, acerca de la violencia contra las mujeres. Así, comencé a retratar a aquellas que han sufrido de distintos tipos de violencias, desdé el acoso callejero, la violencia intrafamiliar hasta las violaciones, estas últimas, en su mayoría, perpetradas por personas del círculo cercano de las víctimas, como sus tíos, vecinos, padres o amigos.
El retrato es un testimonio acerca de una sujeta que se sitúa en un contexto particular desde el lente de quien lo lleva a cabo. Las mujeres acá retratadas cargan consigo un historial de violencia en sus distintos dominios, por lo tanto, al llevarlos a cabo, fijo en la memoria colectiva sus testimonios visibilizándolos a través del arte. Además, he sumado un elemento primordial en el sello de mi obra: el bordado.
El retrato- bordado es, entonces, un acto de fijación de la memoria, mediante la aguja y el hilo; una puntada como acto de dolor de aquellas mujeres que han sido asesinadas, violentadas y desaparecidas por una única razón: haber nacido mujeres. Mezclo, así, la memoria y su intervención mediante el bordado y los mensajes sobre sus vidas para fijar en este espacio-tiempo en que nos tocó vivir. La intertextualidad de las voces de mujeres y el multiuso de diversas técnicas retoman estrategias simbólicas ancestrales que refuerzan los significados que ofrezco con 74 Nudos.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 74 Knots is an investigative project born from the story of a 12-year-old girl who was sexually abused by her uncle. Like her, there are countless girls and women around the world who, sadly, have been sexually violated. Rape is the most extreme form of violence, an unmistakable sign of the patriarchal articulation that undermines women’s freedoms and threatens women’s lives.
Given the patriarchal articulation and the restriction of freedoms, with all the levels of violence that are superimposed in this social configuration, my concern arose about how to leave testimony, through the art of photography, about violence against women. Thus, I began to portray those who have suffered from different types of violence, from street harassment, domestic violence to rape, the latter mostly perpetrated by people in the victims’ close circle, such as their uncles, neighbours, parents or friends.
The portrait is a testimony about a subject that is situated in a particular context from the lens of the photographer. The women portrayed here carry with them a history of violence in their different domains, therefore, by carrying them out, I fix their testimonies in the collective memory, making them visible through art. In addition, I have added a primordial element to the stamp of my work: embroidery.
The portrait-embroidery is, then, an act of fixing the memory, by means of needle and thread; a stitch as an act of pain of those women who have been murdered, violated and disappeared for a single reason: to have been born women. I thus mix memory and its intervention through embroidery and messages about their lives in order to fix them in this space-time in which it was our lot to live. The intertextuality of women’s voices and the multiuse of diverse techniques take up ancestral symbolic strategies that reinforce the meanings I offer with 74 Knots.
